Cancer is one of the greatest scourges mankind has ever seen. Every year some 12 million people are diagnosed with some form of cancer, and more than 20,000 people a day die from it, according to the American Cancer Society.
Multiply this by all the family members it affects, and the impact of cancer becomes even more immense. But what can be done about it?
Recent studies out of San Francisco have shown that cannabis has some effect in stopping the spread of cancer, and other studies have shown its effectiveness in shrinking cancer cells. The story of Rick Simpson is well-known in the cannabis community, and testimonials from people who say his hemp oil cured their cancer are all over Youtube.
Rick says the oil cured him as well. ?When the medical system told me in 2001 that there was nothing more they could do for me, I had no option other than to turn to the oil for relief,? Rick told The 420 Times last year. ?The chemical medications that they had been giving me for years had badly damaged my thinking ability to the point that I couldn?t seem to remember anything. But once I started ingesting the oil on a regular basis it began to work its magic and in a short time it lifted me out of the chemically induced haze that I had been in. As this was taking place I became quite alarmed because I started loosing a lot of weight, of course I didn?t know at the time that the oil was simply detoxifying my body of excess fat and toxins that had built up over the years. It wasn?t until I had cured my own skin cancer, that I really became aware of the healing potential of this substance.?
Since then, cannabis and cancer has been in the news quite a bit, especially the ?controversial? use of medical cannabis and children.
The story of 7-year-old Mykayla made national headlines recently when her father told child services in Oregon that her mother was giving her cannabis oil to treat the child?s cancer. The father, who lives in North Dakota, came to visit this summer and said his daughter was stoned and only wanted to play video games.
?As a mother, I am going to try anything before she can potentially fall on the other side,? said Erin Purchase, mother of the girl. She also says the oil ? of which she gives Mykayla one gram a day ? also helps to offset the side effects of chemotherapy.
In fact, many children are being treated with medical marijuana, especially in terminal situations. Like young Cash Hyde of Montana, who recently lost his short and brutal battle with cancer in November, 2012. Only twenty months old when he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, he and his parents fought with every conceivable treatment, including cannabis, for three years. While these efforts would drive the cancer into remission, it would return, taking Cash at the tender age of 4.
But cannabis has shown promise in fighting cancer in more than just children. Take Ethel?s story, for example. Now 82 years of age, Ethel found the healing power of cannabis oil through her daughter, who suggested Ethel try some on a legion on her face.
Her daughter got the oil through their state?s medical marijuana program, and Ethel says the results were remarkable. ?I used the black oil on a spot on my face that was pre-cancerous. It took about 2 months for it to really go away,? she told The 420 Times.
?If it hadn?t gone away I would have had it cut out. I had already had 2 on the same area cut out. In the past I have had all types of skin cancer, carcinoma, squemous cell, and melanoma phase 3.?
Ethel says she wishes the oil were easier to get.
?She used it 2 months and the skin cancer disappeared ? I told her to use it another month just for good measure,? Ethel?s daughter told us. ?I saw her over Thanksgiving and it?s still gone. The doc just smiled and nodded his head when she went back to see him.?
One has to wonder just how many doctors are out there that have seen cannabis oil work in this fashion, and who won?t or can?t say anything.
A former skeptic of cannabis, Dr. William Courtney, saw the effects that cannabis had on an 8-month-old baby who had a ?very massive centrally located inoperable brain tumor.? ?They were putting cannabinoid oil on the baby?s pacifier twice a day, increasing the dose,? Dr. Courtney said. ?And within two months there was a dramatic reduction, enough that the pediatric oncologist allowed them to go ahead with not pursuing traditional therapy.?
Whether at 8 months or 82 years, cannabis continues to show tremendous potential when it comes to treating cancer. The research in this area should be massive and full scale, yet barely a whimper is heard about it in the mainstream press and the federal government is deathly silent on the issue.
How many more people need to die before we get serious about finding a cure for cancer? Will cannabis need to be legal nationwide before we have any hope of a full onslaught of research?
