Rumors of an HTC Facebook phone are back, friends, and once again I am disgusted. The device, rumored to be the HTC Opera UL, is purportedly arriving at some point in the U.S. and will run a customized version of Android. Now do we actually need an official Facebook smartphone? Probably not, but it looks like the social media giant is going to launch one anyway.
As you might recall, rumors of a Facebook smartphone first surfaced in November of 2011 when AllThingsD reported Facebook and HTC were in fact, teaming up. This time around Pocket-lint is saying much of the same. According to sources, the smartphone will be powered by a quad-core 1.4GHz CPU and will run Android 4.1. According to Pocket-lint's "industry insider," the Facebook phone will run a heavily modified version of Android that Facebook has designed.
So what else might we see? Not too sure right now as that's really all the information Pocket-lint received from its tipster. I think its fair to say, however, that the device will likely have an HD screen and be comparable to other smartphones on the market. I really hope it isn't blue.
Now, on to the part that has me chomping at the bit and that's the fact that a Facebook phone just isn't needed. Can't we share enough from our Android, iOS, and Windows smartphones? I think so, but apparently others don't. Again, it doesn't make much sense as other have pointed out, but it's looking likely to happen, folks.
Per usual, I?m approaching this rumor here with some salt in my hand and shaker in my pocket. I hope it's not true, but we'll just have to see I guess.
Would you purchase an official Facebook smartphone or are you as adverse to one as me?
