Hazel Knight passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, in Billings.
Hazel was born the fifth child of J.R. ?Jim? and Mabel Sammons in Malta on Jan. 26, 1923. When she was 6, the family moved to Billings, where she grew up, graduating from Billings Senior High in 1940.
She moved to California to work during the war, meeting Earle Knight upon her return to Billings and marrying in 1947. They raised three children, Judy, Jerry and Jim, in Billings. In 1983, Earle and Hazel left Billings for the sun of Arizona and lived in Green Valley for 13 years. In 1996, they moved home to Billings to settle down and enjoy family and old friends.
Hazel was an avid card player, bridge and poker being her favorites. She also loved movies, music and shopping. Hazel spent many happy retirement years enjoying the company of her good friends and family.
Preceding Hazel in death are her parents, siblings and her husband of 54 years, Earle. She is survived by her children, Judy (Dick) Fox, Jim Knight and Jerry Knight; five grandchildren, Alex (Christy) Fox, Amy (Dwayne) Vogel, Brian (Kim) Knight, Kelly (Grant) Todd and Kevin Knight; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Austin and Hannah Vogel, Megan, Emma, Clara and Lauren Fox and Cameron Todd; numerous nieces, nephews; special friend Jerry Huston; Jimmy Knight and the wonderful, caring family at Sweetwater Retirement Home, where she had lived for the past six years.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary in Billings.
